LTI 1.3 Consumer Core Launch Engine

The Regex LTI 1.3 Consumer Core Launch Engine is an enterprise-grade interoperability engine that turns your LMS or learning platform into a fully compliant LTI 1.3 Platform (Consumer). It lets you securely authenticate, embed, and launch advanced courses hosted by external third-party tools, such as external publishers, virtual labs, simulators, and specialized content networks. It handles the complex security handshakes behind the scenes, so your engineering team can keep your platform's own UX and course progression workflows.

The engine includes:

• OIDC core launch handshake: backend implementation of the OpenID Connect login initiation and validation of incoming third-party JSON Web Tokens (JWT)
• Secure UI launch container: a plug-and-play frontend module that renders verified external tools in an isolated, cross-domain safe iframe
• Context and role claims mapping: parsing of standard LTI 1.3 claims such as User ID, Course Context ID, and Learner/Instructor roles
• JWKS endpoint configuration: public JSON Web Key Set endpoints that external tools use to verify launch token signatures
• Documentation and reference samples: technical guides and clean reference implementations
• Provider sandbox testing: end-to-end verification against third-party tool sandboxes and official conformance suites such as the Saltire LTI Emulator

It uses the OpenID Connect (OIDC) login flow and validates JWT signatures for every launch. Regex also configures public JWKS endpoints so external tools can verify your launch tokens. Verified tools then render inside an isolated, cross-domain safe iframe, and only standard claims such as user ID, course context, and role are used to create the session.

Regex works in four steps:
